Canon EOS M5 was on display, so I went to try it out.

Canon EOS M5's release date has been decided on November 25th.

Prior to its release, a preliminary display at stores was held.

So I experienced it right away, so I would like to write down my first impressions.

Dual pixel CMOS AF

Adopting dual pixel CMOS AF, AF has evolved significantly.
It focuses comfortably.

I'm also happy to be able to change the AF frame size.
By making the AF frame smaller, you can focus more firmly.

Built-in high-definition EVF

The EOS M3 had an external EVF.
Something like this. ↓

There was a bit of a worry that the external EVF would be damaged when attaching and detaching it, or when transporting it while attached.

Because he looks like this.

Since the EOS M5 has a built-in EVF, worries about damage have been alleviated.

However, since it has a built-in EVF, it is no longer possible to look through the viewfinder like a twin-lens camera when shooting from a low angle. ↓
How to look through the viewfinder of a twin-lens camera

Being able to change the angle of the EVF was very convenient.
Especially when the sunlight is bright and it's hard to see the LCD monitor.
It seems like his EOS M3 has an advantage in this area.

Touch & drag AF

Touch and drag AF when using EVF has a good feel.

You can move the AF frame smoothly by sliding your finger anywhere.

Between "absolute position" and "relative position", I personally find the latter easier to use.
If you use "absolute position", your own face will get in the way (lol).

tilt lcd

I thought it wouldn't be possible to take selfies using the tilting LCD because of the built-in EVF, but it moves 180 degrees downwards.

It may be harder to see than the vari-angle, but it's a blessing.

Also, when taking selfies, it would be a good idea to use touch shutter or timer shooting.

Sub electronic dial, dial function button

A dial function button is placed in the center of the sub-electronic dial.
You can select a setting item using the dial function button and change the setting using the sub-electronic dial.

I play with things like white balance quite often, so this feeling of operation will improve.

Commonly used ISO sensitivity 100-25600

With the EOS M3, you can shoot at ISO25600 by expanding it, but with the EOS M5 you can use ISO25600 for regular use.

It may not be a good idea to be too overconfident, but the improvements in noise resistance and resolution during high-sensitivity shooting are welcome.

I haven't been able to try this out much, but it's something I'd like to compare thoroughly.

Rate of fire: 7.0 fps, 9.0 fps when fixed with AF

Another good thing is that the rate of fire has increased.

The same can be said for improving AF accuracy, but it increases the accuracy of taking good photos when shooting moving objects.

To be honest, shooting moving objects with EOS M3 is difficult...

Built-in flash, but cannot take bounce shots

EOS M5 has a built-in flash.

However, since the strobe angle cannot be adjusted, bounce photography is not possible.

With the EOS M3, I was able to take bounce shots by cleverly using the fingers of my left hand to adjust the angle of the pop-up flash.

The EOS M3 has an advantage in this regard as well.

I tried to write about my first impressions, but I'm still not sure whether to buy it or not.

I haven't been able to try what I wanted to try the most

Depending on that, I will decide whether or not to buy it, and when to buy it...

So, let's continue next time.
